Art

Patti Thompson distills the untamed spirit of the West Coast into intimate vignettes that dance with texture and light.

A photographer and painter, her work is a dialogue between the delicate and the enduring, capturing scenes where water caresses the earth or where flora withstands the relentless coastal elements.

Educated at Emily Carr University, Patti brings an astute sensitivity to her work, an alchemy of her fine arts training and her profound experiences in birth and growth from her years as a midwife. Each piece is a testament to life’s intricate dance, from the birth of a child to the unfolding bloom that follows the natural rhythms of the earth.

In her work, elements of ikebana—the Japanese art of flower arrangement—merge with the rugged scenes of the coast, portraying not just the form, but the energy of flora interacting with water and stone. Her works capture the resilience of life against the wild elements, where weather and water sculpt and define both landscape and living form.

The theme “Water is Life” runs deeply through Patti’s exhibitions, reflecting her respect for this vital element as both a sustainer and a sculptor of the environment. Her art invites us to step closer, to appreciate the subtleties of dew on a petal or the reflective calm of a moonlit tide—each a celebration of nature’s persistent vitality.

Patti’s art is a continuous journey, charting the interface between the natural world and human perception, always reminding us of the profound bonds we share with the land we call home.

Though her pieces featured at her last show sold out (pictured above), she has photography and older work available. Patti is currently creating work for a new show–stay tuned.
